"Lazer Tag"

Lately, grafitti "artists" have been taking their work to "new heights". Turning the brick facades of some of our city's buildings into their personal "canvasses", some enterprising "taggers" have figured out a way to spray paint on the sides of buildings up to twenty feet high. Giant letters spelling out the word "LAZER" can be seen on the sides of some buildings around town.

Even more distressing, the new stone retaining wall on the south side of the River Des Peres which leads to beautiful new pedestrian and cyclist bridge that crosses River Des Peres at Morganford, has had four or five of the wall sections defaced with graffiti. Removing grafitti from a natural stone wall has got to be a very expensive and difficult process.

Please, if you see anyone in the process of spray painting graffitti, dial 911.

And who is this "Kinkhorse" dude? He tags all over the city. His latest work is on the bridge over River Des Peres by the old Monsanto/Solutia chemical plant near Lemay. What makes a guy wake up and say "today's the day I spray paint on other people's property"?

Dude, learn how to spell it...

Is it graffitti, graffiti, grafitti, or grafiti?

Graffiti is art. It's free. Enjoy it. And while you're at it, quit complaining.

^ Let's talk about the kind of person Anon #2 is: "Enjoy vandalism!"

Maybe Anon #2 needs a reality check? Perhaps a tour of Iraq?

Under FBI Uniform Crime Reporting, graffiti is vandalism. The City of Chicago spends about $4 million annual on graffiti abatement and that doesn't include what CTA spends removing graffiti from the transit system's properties.

I do not know any parents who hope their child becomes the moron responsible for "Suck Me" all over park structures, private garages, and light poles. I don't picture any parent proudly saying, "I'm going to visit my son, The Artist Formerly Known As Suck Me, in jail."

My son is a grafitti artist, and I am extremely proud of him. He does not tag on historic buildings, unless the owner has previously ruined the building by painting the bricks.

Dave, your son is a criminal. If you supply your son with the means to commit his crimes, you also are a criminal.
