Soup Man?

There was a commercial on the radio yesterday advertising a new downtown restaurant that's based on the "Soup Man" character from the Seinfeld show. It's in the historic Bee Hat building on Washington Avenue.

"The Original Soup Man" website

It sounds good. Any recommendations?

It's been there for two years or so. I only had been there once before I departed for New Orleans.

I was surprised by the quality of the food, but disappointed that I was treated so respectfully.

So I gave the Soup Man a try. I'm no food critic, but I know what I like, and this was good.

The place feels like a storefront New York deli. It's located around the corner from Washington Avenue, on the north side of the Bee Hat building. You can see the Flamingo Bowl from the front door.

Soup selections are rotated daily. Mine came with a piece of chocolate and a fresh banana.

If you're in the area, give it a try. It's worth a visit.

I eat there a few times a week. SoupMan rocks. Always lots to choose from. They told me that Al, the soup guy, still oversees the production of all the soup.

I ate there in 2007, I believe right after it opened. I liked it in the moment, but later, I realized that I liked it because it was sooo salty.
