Holy cow, where is that?
I took this picture yesterday on my way to the Sustainability Summit Community Workshop at the History Museum. So let's just say that it's a few minutes away from Forest Park...
That is not theft. That is recycling. The city tears down unsafe structures such as that & hauls it to a land-fill. At least someone recycled some of before it went to waste.

For one thing, when legal demolitions occur, the brick is salvaged with the value of the brick lowering the cost of the demolition.
When brick theft occurs, all that is left is an environmental mess for someone else to clean up.
Just look at the "house" in the picture? Who is supposed to pay to clean up that mess?
First, Anonymous, you're an idiot. Second, if someone uses the commons for paving, they're going to be really pissed in about 4-5 years when their precious "antique" brick drive/walkway/patio turns to powder. Fools.
Good points made, Mr. Bonasch. This is what is called privatizing the profits, and socializing the costs. Though on a smaller scale than what 99% of corporate supranationals push off on the public.
That didn't happen overnight. Why didn't some of those who are outraged about this stop and chat or call the authorities when they first saw it? If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Sorry, I was out of line. How can I help efforts to stop brick theft?
There are lots of ways. It's probably best to team up with organizations already working on the problem. I'd recommend you contact the Greater Ville Neighborhood Preservation Commission to see how you might be able to help their efforts. 314-533-4100.
They are working on a wide range of strategies to reduce brick theft. If you help them, even with a financial donation, you will be doing something positive to cut down on brick theft.
