Being the city parents of a 7th grade student, we are interested in educational opportunities, especially the ones that are tuition free. An interesting flier came in yesterday's mail. Here's the information we received.
The slogan:
"Inspiring Excellence, Building Bright Futures".
The copy:
E.H. Lyle Academy
706 N. Jefferson Ave, St. Louis MO 63103
E.H. Lyle Academy will provide a strong focus on preparing middle and high-school students for college and successful careers.
Our program provides a quality tuition-free education along with transportation for city residents, grades 6-10.
Call 314-588-8622 today or pre-enroll online at www.imagineschools.com or www.lyleacademy.org
The flip side of the brochure has the heading:
A Brand New School for the Road Ahead...
with a picture of three clean-cut male students, two black, one white, dressed in neat uniforms, working at their desks.
It sounds pretty good, and it's a quality marketing piece. Can anyone recommend the school?

I am very familiar with the elementary school. It has a great principal and very good teachers.
Its students load outside my windows every day. Well supervised, well mannered, high spirited . . .
Lots and lots of parents hovering around at all times of the school day.

I am a former teacher at the middle/high school and I would not recommend sending your child to this school...at least 75% of the staff (me included) looked for other jobs during the year and are not returning... the school lacks proper leadership and consistency.
I, too, am a former teacher of EH Lyle Academy. I would have returned, but I was finishing a two-year commitment with Teach For America and have since moved to Nor Cal.
The school is doing a ton of strategic planning and leadership for next year has changed. EHL is a growing community that needs involved, commited staff and parents, and I truly believe that it will be a fine academic institution. However, I would wait until your child is going to enter the ninth grade so he or she can take advantage of the improvments that take place this year.
On another note, I love the idea for this blog. Though I've left St. Louis, I still hold a special spot for it in my heart.
Be blessed...
I am a former student of E.H.Lyle and i would like to state that I absolutely HATED and was DISGUSTED by this school. The kids are not very supervised and controlled in the classrooms. In my experience at the school there was only 1 decent teacher there. The children do not listen and are very ill mannered. If I were a parent searching for a school for my child I would definitely not recommend this school for my him/her.
I am a former student for 6th. I do not like this school at all. They don't reach the point that I would like it to reach. I would not recommand this school I would recomand Carr Lane VPA Middle School.
I am a student of EhLyle academy and have been for two years now, i will be entering my 10th grade year on august 14 and i love this school, and you up top apparently you need to repeat that 6th grade because you mis-spelled a few of your words.....GOod luck with that one.
I am a student at EHLyle and to me the school is not completely horrible they just need new administration and more qualified teachers who want to actually be there and dont come in everyday with a stank attitude. It could be a great school if they offerd more for the students and had better leaders.
This school is trying to improve it's reputation , I currently go to the school and it may have took us a little time to get our act together but we have done it. We are living up to our slogan, showing respect for our peers and instuctors. We also believe that with a little help we can become the most prestigious Charter school in St. Louis.
EH Lyle is improving and is a place for students to build strong relationships with their friends and their teachers. It is a great learning enviroment, we also believe that anything is possible with focus and faith.
Im am a former student of EHLyle. I attended Ethel for 2 years, my 9th and 10th grade year. I enjoyed the school at times. The only thing about the school that was fun was my peers. The teachers just want to deal with disciplinary actions more than academics and that bothered me. Now I attend Imagine, and I will type proudly that WE need Ms. Jansen back...Mizz.Watson
