Rare downtown alley

There used to be lots of alleys in downtown St. Louis. Now, not so much. This alley connects Olive and Locust between 7th and 8th Street.

The building on the right is one of our two remaining Louis Sullivan buildings, and it reveals the original round windows that once wrapped around the entire building.

I love alleys and fire escapes, especially downtown and downtown west. Great shot!

Why, oh why, did some short-sighted person destroy the round windows on the other sides of the building?

I will never understand why people do that.

EXACTLY! Love this alley. I think it was reading a post by Toby that made me go and seek out those original windows. 705 Olive is a beauty.
