Do not knock Soulard Mardi Gras. Soulard needs all the support it can get to keep Mardi Gras in the neighborhood. If Mardi Gras moves downtown, as Phyllis has said, Soulard will go back to being the ugly slum it was before Mardi Gras arrived and saved the neighborhood. It is uncomprehendable why your link did not list the Soulard Mardi Gras, since that is the largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country after New Orleans. Everybody knows that. What needs to happen is that some of those old buildings in Soulard should be knocked down to make way for more Mardi Gras events, for parking and for some more interesting bars. If Slay thinks he is going to take the event downtown to tickle downtown interests, he better think again.
